I love the comment about dinosaurs! The pick was one of the biggest examples of republican political pandering.
Damon's reservations about Palin's lack of experience are quite valid concerns, however i'm going to take issue with his line of reasoning about the relation of McCain's age to the importance of this issue.
i did a little research and found that 9 VP's became President during their term in the vice presidency, 8 because the President died in office, and the ninth because the President resigned. The issue on the table relates specifically to death of a President in office, as a relation to age. Average age of a President who dies in office? 58. Ages range from 47 into the late 68, with a markedly even distribution. Average age of a President upon inaguration? 55.
i submit that if history is precedent, the VP discussion is always relevant, because a President could die in office at any age, not to mention be impeached, resign, or become incapacitated. (Did you know that Cheney twice was declaraed Acting President?)
I liked the analogy about the bad Disney movie: Sarah and the Mighty Ducks Take the White House - Solving the Worlds Problems in 'V' Formation.
Definitely scary.
Shannon: I agree that the VP is always relevant, but I think Damon's point was to emphasize that there's a higher probability of the VP taking over for McCain. So, higher probability * bad candidate = bigger problem.
btw. I just logged into Feedburner for the first time in a while. Your posts are definitely the most popular. Probably because they're the most substantial. Just thought you might like to know.
